Resource Management

Resource consents affect everyone whether making changes to their homes or major infrastructure projects. An understanding of the Resource Management Act 1993 is an essential part of any law firm.

We assist our clients to apply for the consents they seek or to protect themselves when consents affect them. We can liaise with local and territorial councils as well as required consultants (engineers, surveyors, archaeologists). We can draft and file applications and present at council hearings and in the Environment Court.

Māori Land Law

Maori land makes up approximately 5% of New Zealand's land base. Much has been for various reasons under developed. This is changing as Maori seek to develop their resources more aggressively for the benefit of their shareholders, beneficiaries and future generations. Te Nahu Lovell & Co Ltd are working with Maori Trusts and Maori Incorporations to assist them in their goals.

Our focus has been to facilitate and support these entities as they manage their existing obligations under Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 and as they interact with mainstream organisations some of whom don't understand Maori land structures and the processes for compliance and consent under Te Ture.

We have extensive experience of over 10 years in providing legal and practical advice within this jurisdiction. We have drafted whanau trust documents, attended hearings regarding Trust matters, transfer of shares, addressed lease arrangements, we have represented whanau, have been appointed as legal advisors to Trusts amongst other matters. We have also provided training to Trustees on their duties and obligations.
We act for Maori Incorporations in commercial dealings relating to their land. This has included advice relating to forestry interests and licences, geothermal and hydro negotiations, farming and lease negotiations as well as the development of long term commercial strategies for developing and investing in their assets.
